When it comes to getting a comfortable orthopedic mattress, a Talalay Latex Mattress is a popular choice for people that for whatever reason prefer a mattress sourced from natural resources – latex foam mattresses, as opposed to one sourced from chemicals i.e. a memory foam mattress.
Differences Between Memory Foam And Latex Foam
So you may be wondering what the differences are between memory foam and latex foam? Well the most obvious one has already been mentioned. That is memory foam is not made from natural materials – it is chemically produced. Latex foam on the other hand as the name suggests, is sourced from Latex, which is a natural defensive substance that is found in 10% of all flowering plants. Specifically in this case, latex rubber is sourced from trees. Some people will prefer this as they do not trust chemically produced materials, or perhaps are allergic to something used to manufacture a mattress made from memory foam. That said, some people are allergic to latex too, although of course they are not people that will be looking to buy a latex foam mattress.
Another difference is the mattress lifespan. A latex foam mattress is known on average to last up to 5 years longer than a memory foam mattress, although the difference is somewhat negligible, as a memory foam mattress can last between 10 and 20 years; a period of time by which most people will want to change their mattress! 20 years for both is not an uncommon lifespan of a high quality mattress made from memory foam. In fact some manufacturers will offer a 20 year warranty on these mattresses.
Difference Betwen Dunlop And Talalay Latex Mattress Processing Methods
There is one other main difference, but this one lies not in comparison to memory foam, but with latex foam itself. That is that there are two different production methods used to make latex foam – the Talalay Method ad the Dunlop Method.
To cut a long store short the Dunlop Latex Mattress manufacturing method is simpler and thus cruder, being the original method used to make a latex mattress. In short all the parts are put together in a mixture, however it is not very stable, which results in sediments falling to the base of the formula, and thus the top of the mattress will be softer than the base, rather than consistent throughout. Some people might prefer this, as they then both have a soft and hard surface to sleep on. Other people however, prefer to have a Talalay Latex Mattress. This manufacturing method adds in additional steps that take the unstable formula and stabilize it so that the mattress ends up overcoming the Dunlop limitation and becoming consistent throughout. Of course with more complicated manufacturing process, you can of course expect to pay a premium over a Dunlop equivalent. Many people prefer having a mattress with balanced consistency, so will buy a Talalay model.
A latex mattress like a memory foam one has several distinct advantages over other types of mattress – it is antibacterial, does not store up mold and dust, and is naturally hypoallergenic. Although of course it is not suitable if you are allergic to latex. A Talalay mattress will provide the ultimate in sleep comfort, being balanced, supportive and resistant to mold, dust and bugs in a natural sourced product. Experience the benefits for yourself, ensure your next mattress is a Talalay Latex Mattress.
